Step I: Revision.

1.  Check the homework

1.      Duty report.

2.      Act out the text in lesson 72.

Step II: Read and act

This weekend Bruce and Bill are going to visit an island.

Listen to the tape and answer the questions.

1.      Where are Bruce and Bill gong to meet?(At the school gate)

2.       When are they going to meet?(At six)

Listen again,and try to repeat the dialogue in SB.on Page 21, Part 1.

Practise the dialogue in pairs,then act it out without books.

 

Step III: Presentation.

1.      Talk about the picture on page 21.eg.How many islands can you see? Where is near? Which is farther/the farthest?where are the children? What are they doing?.

(Note: Pay attention to the word “island” .the letter “s” is silent.)

2.Talk about the distances with the diagram.So we can learn the words  far   farther   farthest

eg, A: Have you been to Beijing?

   B: Yes.I’ve been there once with my parents.

   A: How far is it (from here)?

   B: It’s about 1,160 kilometers.

   A;Which is farther from Beijing,Nanjing or Shanghai?

   B: I think Shanghai is.

   A: That’s right. Nanjing is nearer ( to Beijing) than Shanghai.

Step IV: Read and act.

SB Page 21, Part 2.Speech Cassette , Lesson 73 .

ASK:  Which island will they go to? ( the nearest /the smallest island)

Play the tape and ask them to find the answer.Then practise the dialogue in pairs. Ask some pairs to act it out.

 After this lesson, the students have some curiosity about the island.They want to know more about this strange island. Thus they would like to go on learning the next lesson.

 According to reading and acting the dialogues ,they will have some more progress in their oral English .
