Teaching Procedures
Step I. Leading in (1)
Activity: Have a free talk with Ss about some cultural relics that you have ever seen
Questions:
1. Which cultural relics did you see?
2. Why do you think it is famous?
3. What do you know about the ancient relics?
4. Have you ever seen it?
Step II. Warming—up (3)
Activity: Pictures discussion on the screen.
1. Show Ss three pictures (The Pyramids in Egypt, The Great Wall, the Stonehenge) and ask Ss to tell what they know about them.
2. If you have a chance to travel, which one would you like to visit most ? Why?
3. Questions:
1) Do you think it necessary to spend so much money to protect cultural relics?
2) Why is it important to protect them?
3) What do you think we can do to protect our cultural relics?
4) Which places in Guangzhou do you think can be cultural relics in future?
Step III. Listening (20)
Activity:
1. Listen to the description of the three cultural sites. Complete the map on P43.
2. Listen to the tape three times if necessary. The Check the information with the Ss.
1) Listen for the first time, let Ss get the three names of the site.
2) Listen for the second time, let Ss find out why it is important.
3) Listen for the last time, let Ss find out what is being done to protect it.

**( Ss will find it easy to finish the first task , but quite difficult to finish the following two tasks. T will ask Ss to listen to the sentences part by part and try to guide Ss to the key sentences, then let Ss do pair work to see if they can find the key words, finally T check the answers and show the key words on the screen)
If the Ss are interested, have a further discussion about the three sites.

Activity: Discussion
1. Background(背景):
You live in a small village. Near the village, there is a very old temple. Some businessmen want to build new houses where the temple stands. Some villagers agree with the businessmen while others don’t agree.
Today, we invite a famous host and some experts to have a discussion together.
(T devide the class into groups of four, asking each S to act as the role of an Expert, or a Businessman or Villager A or Villager B. Ss make a debate about whether they should protect the temple or build houses, according to the key words the T give.)

Step V. Consolidation
In this lesson, we’ve done some listening practice about some cultural sites. By listening to it, we’ve realized it is quite important to protect them. We should do our best to protect them. .
Step VI. Homework (1)
Task: As is known to us all, China is a country with a history of more than 5,000 years. In the long history, people in different periods have left us quite a number of cultural sites, many of which are world-famous.
Prepare a brief description of Ss’ favorite cultural site in China. The report must include the following:
1)The name of the site
2)Its size as well as its history
3) Its importance and what is being done to protect it.(Better surf on the Internet)
