A Freedom Fighter
一.General Design For Unit 19
A. 在处理本单元教学内容时,重点在于单元教学环节的整体性,内容的完整性,结构的连贯性,训练的渐进性,能力的多样性,思维的灵活性。以黑人解放运动这一中心,多角度、全方位培养学生的听、说、读、写能力,有效地引导学生积极参与课堂活动,深入思考,了解二十世纪六十年代美国黑人的状况及马丁 路德 金为争取黑人获得与白人同等权力所作的斗争。掌握并运用本单元的交际用语和相关语法词汇知识,用口头和书面的形式来表达自己的思想。
B. 在第73课Dialogue的教学中,教学重点在听,说能力的培养,教师围绕监狱中人描述游行这一情景,让学生通过听——回答,读——回答,听——跟读,角色朗读,角色扮演,自由对话等教学步骤,培养学生的听力和口头表达能力。
C. 在第74课的教学中,突出阅读理解这一中心,重在信息收集、整体理解、篇章结构,通过听——回答(导入),速读——回答,详听并跟读——回答,讨论,概括,口头报告等活动,培养和提高学生的阅读理解能力,同时学习相关的语言知识。
D. 在第75课的教学中,通过A freedom fighter (2) 的学习,进一步培养学生的独立阅读能立,并通过Practice进一步熟悉课文内容,加深对词语和本单元语法要点:定语从句的理解,以达到熟练掌握和运用定语从句的教学目标。课后补充400字左右的关于黑人解放运动的文章Sit-Ins 解决学生输入量不足的问题。
E. 在第76课的教学中,有效、合理地利用听力练习,培养学生抓大意、捕细节等方面的听力技能。练习Word Study既是文章内容的有效补充,同时又培养学生通过已知信息推测空格含义的能力。根据本单元所获得的信息和语言知识,进行语言实践,陈述自己对一事件的了解和看法。

B. Reading the passage “A freedom fighter”. Get the students to know about Martin Luther King and the liberation of American blacks. Train the students to be effective readers.
C. Learn the following words and expressions: march, demand, join in, over and over again, dream, side by side, citizen, forbid, put…in prison, set an example, minister, separation, marriage, peaceful, revolution, liberate, act, equally, bill, explode, murder, unfair, speed, content, feeling, clerk, chairman, admit, tour, textbook.
D. Revise the grammatical item: the attributive clause.
n I lived in a part of a town where there were no schools.
n Martin Luther King, Jr., who died in 1968, was an important political leader.

n In which country did farmers keep black slaves in the nineteenth century?
n How free were they?
n Is it right for farmers to keep slaves?
n Which President fought for the end of slavery?
Step 2 Presentation
Say: In this unit we’ll learn about another great man, Martin Luther King, Jr., who fought for the equal rights (translate and write on the blackboard) of black people. He is one of the freedom fighters (on the Bb). Now open your books and turn to page 37. Martin and many other people were on a march (on the Bb). They demanded (on the Bb) civil rights (on the Bb). Some of them were put in prison (on the Bb).
Step 3 Reading
Say: Now listen to the dialogue once and try to grasp the information
n Why was one of the two in prison?
Say: Now read the dialogue and find out the answers to these questions:
n Where did the march take place?

Check the answers with the whole class and deal with language problems.
Notes to the dialogue:
1. I was on the march.

We’ve been demanding: the Present Perfect Continuous Tense, used to express a continuous or repeated action that started in the past and is still continuing.
Demand 用作动词,意为“要求”,后接名词、代词、不定式或从句,但是不接复合结构。后接从句时,从句中动词用“should +do (should 可以省去)”。
I demanded a clear answer. 我要求一个明确的答复。
He demanded to be told everything. 他要求被告知一切。
They demanded that the right to vote ( should ) be given to every adult man. 他们要求选举权被给予每个成年人。
6.It’s forbidden. 这是禁止的。
Forbid 用作动词,意为“禁止,不许”,后接名词、代词、动名词或不定式的复合结构。
