2         Revise the dialogue in SB Lesson 37,Part 1.Ask individual Ss about their preferences,then lit the Ss ask each other.

Step 2 Preparation for reading

SB Lesson 38.Say look at the picture. What can you see?(A flag.) yes,it’s the Olympic flag.What colours can you see ?Tell the Ss that every flag in the world contains at least one of the colours in the Olympic flag.Say There are five rings joined together.Can you guess what the five rings are?They are the five continents.They are the five continents. They are joined together as a sign of friendship.Teach Olympic Games.Draw an athelete on the Bb,standing in first place with a gogd medal. Say This is (use the name of a famous Chinese athlete).He/She is an athlete.An athlete is a sportsman or sporswoman.Repeat after me :an athlete(Write new words on the Bb after the Ss have learnt their pronunciation).He/She has won a gold medal .That is his/her prize for winning the competition.Teach the new words.Say The Olympic Games started in Greece many years ago .Let’s read about the Olympic Games.Read aloud the question at the top of the page and let the Ss read the passage quickly to find the answer:in 1896,in Greece.

Step 3   Reading

Wb Lesson 38,Ex.1.Go through the sentences with the Ss and make sure that they understand them.Then let the Ss read the passage carefully.They check their answers in pairs, and then with the whole class.As you go through the answers,deal with any language points in the passage.

b   competitor=someone who takes part in a competition.An athlete is usually a runner,jumper or thrower,but the word is also used nowadays for any kind of sportsman or sportswoman.

c   from which the modern games came: note the position of the preposition from(belonging to the phrasal verb come from)before the relative pronoun which

Wb Lesson38, I may write down the words in the first box and ask the Ss to pick out the right word for each of them .

Ex.4 gives different ways of expressing“每……”in English。

Step 5  Consolidation

Revise the contents of the passage：Tell me about the Olympic Games。Where did they come from？ How often do they take place？Which sports are in the Olympic Games？etc。

Revise the passage by doing Wb Lesson38，Ex2。
